A user wants to migrate a custom dynamic section from the Broadcast theme to the Modular theme. This section displays Shogun-built pages as inline frames on the landing page.
Technical Approach Suggested:
Locate the section file in the old theme’s code (Admin > Online Store > Themes > Edit Code)
Copy the section file contents and create a new section in the destination theme
Be aware that theme-specific settings may cause compatibility issues
Key Challenges:
Theme developers stated they don’t offer customization support and suggested using their ‘Add Custom HTML’ section
Shogun indicated their stylesheets wouldn’t display correctly in that approach
Copying code between paid themes isn’t officially recommended due to different coding structures
Context for Theme Switch:
The user needs better mobile optimization—93% of their audience uses mobile devices. Current theme (Broadcast) lacks mobile-specific customization options for images and typography.
Recommendations Provided:
Contact theme developers for guidance on custom sections
Consider hiring a Shopify Expert for proper customization
Use Shopify’s new copy-paste feature in Theme Customizer (recent update) to transfer sections between templates
Status: User planned to proceed after confirming feasibility before purchasing the new theme.

Hi.
I’m looking at changing my Theme from Broadcast to Modular. In Broadcast it has a Dynamic Section where you can add a Page as a section on the Landing page.
I create published micro-pages in Shogun and then using the Shopify Section to display that page like an inline frame.
Would it be possible to Add a Section in the Theme Code of Modular and copy the code from Broadcast to create this section so I can continue using Shogun pages as sections on the Modular Landing page
Ideally a section is very modular. Adding and removing sections from a theme are equivalent to adding and removing the section files in the theme. What I would suggest is that in your current theme you locate the section that you would like to migrate and then copy the contents of that section file and then edit the code of the new theme and create a new section and paste the contents in there.
It is possible that when you save and preview the section might not function properly because of globals that the section is using like certain theme settings that are present in the old theme but not in the new so in the new theme these settings are undefined.
You can find the code for the section in Admin > Online Store > Themes > Actions > Edit Code, on the left sidebar you will see folders and under the section folder you will be able to locate the section of your choice.
I’m here to help. Thanks @BSalim for your insight and @Besvicky for chiming in to help.
It sounds like you’re using a page-building app from our App Store. That’s really cool what you do with your page-building app. Page building apps are great for customizing your theme on your own.
Are you looking to copy a section from one theme and paste it into another theme? If so, this isn’t recommended as it looks like the themes you’re using are Paid themes from our Theme Store (Modular and Broadcast). Each theme has different coding that is specific to each theme, so it isn’t recommended to copy code from one theme to another.
I recommend reaching out to the developer of the new theme to chat with them to let them know what kind of section you want to add, and they can provide you with guidance for your request. Here is our help doc with the steps where you can find support for your theme.
You can add a new section as @BSalim mentioned earlier. Here is our help doc with the steps to add a section.
I am curious, why is it important for you to switch themes?
I initially reached out to the Theme Developers and they said that I can use their ‘Add Custom HTML’ section to display pages. I asked Shogun this but they said due to their style sheets the content wouldn’t display correctly. I went back to the Theme developers and they said they do not offer any customisation and I should post on this board and speak to a Shopify Developer. It seems like a pretty simple section to create as it just creates an inline frame to display the HTML page, so I just wanted clarification prior to buying the theme.
I want to change Themes because my current theme Broadcast, like the majority of Shopify Themes I’ve tested has poor customisation and optimisation for Mobile devices – it’s all desktop focussed, there’s no option for offering alternative images or typography scaling for small portrait screens.
93% of our audience are on mobile which is why I’ve had to customise every page to create two sites, one for mobile and one for desktop which I can do in the Shogun App
I really appreciate you sharing your process with me and the Shopify Community. I also love that you reached out to the theme developers and the app developer prior to posting to discuss your options. While it sounds like they weren’t able to assist directly with this customization, I do agree with them that reaching out to a developer would be the best option here.
This is also a great observation about the themes, and I appreciate you doing your own research and taking the time to create multiple customization for your theme.
Have you looked into hiring a Shopify Expert before? Shopify Experts can help with customization to enhance the features on your store. You can find a list of Shopify Experts on our landing page.
I am also curious to see what the Shopify Community has to suggest! Does anyone else have any other thoughts?
Yes, great news! Shopify has recently introduced a copy and paste feature in the Theme Customizer, and it’s exactly what you’re looking for.
You can now copy an entire section, including all its blocks, images, and text, and paste it onto another template. This is super helpful for saving time and keeping your design consistent across different pages.
