Copying Product Description & Product Page Throughout my store?

Topic summary

A user building a fashion store with many products wants to create consistent product pages without manually configuring each one. They’re looking for a way to replicate elements like dropdown menus, shipping information, policies, and recommended products across multiple product pages.

Solution provided:

  • Shopify’s built-in template system allows creating reusable page layouts
  • Templates control the structure and placement of elements (where description, size guide, etc. appear)
  • Individual product content (like “red dress” vs “black dress” descriptions) is managed separately in the Products section
  • Each product can have unique descriptions while sharing the same template layout

Key clarification:
Editing a template changes the layout for all products using it, but product-specific content (descriptions, titles) remains independent and editable per product.

Additional tool mentioned:
Another store owner recommended Airpress, a Shopify app that automates product page creation from images, generating titles, descriptions, tags, and SEO automatically with template support.

I am building a fashion store. I am going to offer a large amount of products. I want to have consistency throughout my different product pages. Is there a way for me to make one product page with the description then “copy and paste” or “replicate” that to all of my other products?

For example: For a dress I am selling on my product page I will have stuff like a dropdown menu providing information on sizes, shipping times, policies etc. I will also have under the product other recommended products & the rest of my catalog.

Instead of me manually creating each product page which can take quite a long time I would like to simplify this throughout my site. Please let me know if there is an app or way to do this. Thanks in advance!!!

It sounds like you’re in need of a page template for your products. Shopify allows you to assign a consistent template across all your products directly from the product page, please refer to below screenshot.

To create a new product page template, please go to your theme editor and follow these steps:

Select ‘Products’ from the top bar.
Click on ‘Create template’.
This will enable you to design a template that can be applied to multiple products, ensuring a uniform look and feel across your store.

Thank you Kate! What if I make a description for a red dress saying “This red dress is xyz”. Then I make the product page a template and I want to replicate it for a black dress but change the text from red dress to black dress.

Under the same template, wouldn’t this change the description for both the red and black dress product pages? Would I need to use the red dress template, put the black dress under that template, then change the template for the black dress to make the small changes?

Let me know if that makes sense. It was my understanding that if you make a template for one page and use it for another product page, when an edit is made it is applied to all product pages under that template.

Hi Liddy,

Thank you for your question. I understand your concern about using templates for different product pages. Here’s how it works:

The template you create is for the layout of the product page, which includes where to place elements like the description and size guide. This template does not dictate the specific content of the description.

Each product’s description is managed individually in the Products → Description section. So, even if they share the same template, the descriptions can be different and unique to each product.

I hope this clears up any confusion. If you have further questions, feel free to ask!

I also run an online fashion store, and I know how important it is to keep product pages consistent without spending hours manually setting them up. Since you’ve already figured out your solution, I thought I’d share something I built to streamline my own store.

Airpress lets you create Shopify product pages without CSVs or manual entry—just upload your images, and the app handles titles, descriptions, tags, and SEO. You can even set up templates to keep everything uniform across your catalog.
