Cost Paid for Shipping Labels is Needed in analytics

store/product description

High Desert Milk is a farmer-owned dairy processor in Burley, Idaho. We sell dairy products through Shopify, including retail powder products, bulk dairy powders, local pickup cold products, and merchandise. Our store uses Shopify for both direct-to-consumer sales and operational reporting. We fulfill some orders by normal shipping and some by local pickup, and we need accurate profit reporting by order and product category.

I need a way to view cost of shipping per order! Is there a way to do this? I build the cost of shipping into many of my product prices, so customers do not pay shipping at checkout. However, this makes it hard for me to truly see the cost per order as Shopify does not natively factor shipping label cost into gross profit calculations. If there is a way to include this in my analytics? If not, I would love for Shopify to add it.

There is no option in shopify to see shipping label cost per order, right now it will appear only in your billing. Shopify native tools can help you achieve this, let me know if youre looking for one.

Shopify doesn’t natively roll shipping label cost into gross profit by order. Personally, I use Lifetimely to accomplish this – but there are a few alternatives you could consider too.

totally agree, this is one of those things that feels like it should just be there already. having to export and manually calculate shipping label costs against revenue makes profitability reporting way harder than it needs to be.

the workaround we use is exporting orders with shipping costs from shopify and running the numbers in a spreadsheet. not elegant but it gets the job done until they add it natively. some of the analytics apps on the app store pull this data together automatically too if you want something more real-time.
