Could there be an issue with my checkout process?

Topic summary

A user is experiencing high cart abandonment rates and questions whether there’s a technical issue with their checkout process.

Recommended troubleshooting steps:

  • Personally complete a test checkout to identify potential problems
  • Perform this check regularly (every few months) to see the customer experience

Common causes of cart abandonment:

  • Shipping costs perceived as too high
  • Trust issues with the site
  • Other customer concerns

Suggested solution:

  • Implement automated abandoned cart email campaigns
  • Directly ask customers why they didn’t complete their purchase
  • Use available apps designed for this purpose to collect actual data

The original poster confirmed this aligned with their thinking but wanted validation from someone more experienced. Cart abandonment is noted as a normal occurrence in e-commerce.

Hello, so I am just wondering if I could of done a set up wrong at all. I am seeing a lot of customers go to the checking out stage and then no sale comes of it? so I am just wondering if there is an issue with checking out or are they all just having a change of heart? My site is www.tranquiloasis.net

You can see if there’s an issue by doing a checkout yourself. I recommend doing this at least once every couple months, to see what the customer sees, get ideas on how to improve, etc.

Abandoned carts are normal. If you want to find the reason, you could set up automated abandoned cart emails (there are plenty of apps that do this), and then email the customers to ask why.

Maybe they don’t trust the site, maybe they thought shipping was too high, whatever the reason, the best way to solve it is to get actual data from the people abandoning.

Thanks a lot for your response Joe. This is what i was thinking but just wanted someone more experienced to reassure me
