Hi! I need to send an email to everyone who has an unfulfilled order containing a certain product. Shopify’s segmentation allows me to create a segment of people who have ordered a certain product, but there doesn’t seem to be a way to filter out the ones that got fulfilled.
A feature that would help with this and many other issues we run into would be the ability to create a segment from a list of orders, but that also seems not possible with shopify.
Currently my best option is to use a 3rd party reporting tool (ReportToaster) to export a csv of emails (have to use a 3rd party tool because Shopify’s built-in export option has no way to exclude cancelled orders…truly an insane omission for an ecommerce platform, which has undoubtedly cost it’s customer’s thousands, if not millions), and then use a mailmerge to email those customers directly. The problem with this method is that we can’t easily send a formatted email, and many of our mailmerge’s get blocked by customer email platforms.
I think you can try exporting these unfulfilled orders from the “Orders” page, and ensure that the exported CSV includes the “email” field.
Hi,
I understand the challenge—Shopify’s built-in segmentation and export features can be quite limiting when you need to target customers based on specific order conditions like unfulfilled items while excluding fulfilled or cancelled orders.
A simpler and more reliable approach would be to use Notify Rush: https://apps.shopify.com/notify-rush
Notify Rush is designed specifically for this kind of use case. It allows you to filter and select orders based on criteria such as product, fulfillment status, and more. So in your case, you can easily identify all unfulfilled orders that contain a specific product and send emails directly to those customers—without needing to export CSVs or rely on third-party reporting tools.
It also solves the issues you’re facing with mail merges by letting you send properly formatted, customizable emails using templates. You can create messages for scenarios like delays, backorders, or any other updates, ensuring better deliverability and a more professional customer experience.
This way, you avoid the manual workarounds and limitations of Shopify’s native tools while improving communication efficiency.
Thanks,
