Credit card options for Pay and abandoned carts

Hello

I have an issue with my checkout and have been told there are no options now. In checkout, people add to their cart and go to pay. They first see pay with shop pay, google pay, PayPal, or meta pay. They do not see other options for payment, such as MasterCard, visa, American express, etc., until further into the checkout process. I believe I am losing sales and having lots of products left in the cart because they think there is no way to pay other than the four listed above Paypal, Google Pay,

etc. I would like to know if anyone else has this issue at checkout and what they did to fix it. I put an app on my website to show the credit cards above the buy button, but I still think this is a big issue, and I am losing sales. Any suggestions?

Hi, @Garry4 .

Rio here from the Shopify Community team. I’d be happy to explain what’s going on here.

Essentially the accelerated checkout buttons at the top can auto-fill customer information as well as payment information. Whereas a guest would first fill that page, then choose the shipping, then get to the payment page as it shows in your checkout breadcrumbs.

This is the normal flow for the checkout and many customers are used to this. The accelerated and dynamic checkouts are great to save customer information for returning customers and allow a quick checkout via their preferred wallet.

Hello and thank you for your response. I understand that point however
myself along with several other businesses that use shopify have had their
customers tell them they quit and did not pay because there were only the 4
options and no place for visa, mastercard etc. My point is that I think
customers not seeing other options until further into the checkout process
is affecting sales. I am having a lot of products left in the cart that
should be completed and they are not, Thank you for providing me with your
explanation.

Hey, @Garry4 .

We hear you. We’re always listening to our merchants and trying to add the features they want. That’s also why this year, we’re rolling out an all-new, one-page checkout. Inspired by Shop Pay’s proven conversion, it’s faster, higher-converting, and exactly what your customers expect!

This is among the many new features coming this year as outlined in Shopify Editions: Winter 2023 rollout. Be sure to checkout our entier editions page to read all of the new rollouts.

That is good to hear but in the meantime I am losing sales and I am positive that one of the reasons is the other cards such as mastercard and visa are not showing and people are confused. Winter is a long time off. I am taking another step to add something else to the checkout procedure but I wish that shopify would accelearate the launch for the sake of sales and help with this problem.

Hey there. I’d like to refresh this thread with my 2 cents. I totally get your frustration with the limited payment options at checkout. It’s a total bummer when customers abandon their carts because they think there’s no way to pay with their preferred card. Have you considered using a new cc shop vclub? They offer a wider range of payment options, including MasterCard, Visa, and American Express. Plus, they’re super easy to integrate into your checkout process. I’m not sure what app you’re using to show the credit cards above the buy button, but have you tried moving them up even higher on the page? Maybe even make them a bit bigger and brighter to catch the customer’s attention. Hope this helps!

This may be true for returning customers, but it is not valid for first-time customers who want to purchase my product for the first time. The product that I sell is an investment. Yes, people will purchase an accessory or two, but they usually buy the item because they are starting a new hobby. So in my case, I am losing sales for the reason stated in my original message. However, there are others with the same issue, and an option should allow the vendor to arrange the payments in a fashion best suited for their business.

“Custom” checkout optimization? So we pay to have our customers use what they use the most? C’mon Shopify, this isn’t optimal or cool…

Mastercard and Visa are the most preferred methods of payment for our type of product, much less most of the world. We shouldn’t have to jump through hoops to show the most recognizable method of payment.

This shouldn’t be a “new” feature, it should have been the default.

My boss tried to place an order and complained to me that NONE of our customers use “Shop Pay,” “PayPal,” “Google Pay,” “Meta,” or “Venmo,” and wouldn’t set it up just to buy from our store. I know of these payment methods, and the only one I’ve EVER used is PayPal, albeit 25 years ago. C’mon, Shopify, not everyone is under 25 years of age and has 10 different types of cash apps. Most of our customers are over 40, use MC, Visa or Debit because they’re not kids.

They seem to have made a few changes but I agree with you and feel that it
has cost our company a lot of sales by having those options of shop pay,
pay pal etc and the other credit cards after. I had to pay someone to add
some comments and credit card options to try and help us but that still
doesn’t make it as easy as it should be. All the options should be visible,
not just 4 or 5 that most people don’t use.

I would like to thank you for your reply but I totally disagree with your explanation. The most used cards are master card and visa and if nothing else they should be displayed with the other cards.

Thank you for sending me that. I will look into that. Yes the big boys want
to take over and take away from MC and ViSA to name a few. I know I am
losing sales and shopify doesn’t appear to hear me. I wish that they would
think of their sellers instead of the corporate line. They would not be in
business if it wasn’t for the sellers.
