Cross Domain Tracking GA4 - Checkout URL

Hello,

My GA4 reports are showing checkout URLs. For Instance, if I look at a landing page report, checkout URLs are being reported as the landing page, which is undesirable! How do I prevent this from happening? I would obviously like the original landing page to be given its due credit for events like ATC and purchase.

That being said, I have:

  • Set up unlisted referrals in GA4 (which alone did not prevent the issue).

  • Set up cross domain linking with GA4 “configure your domains” and included my store url and the myshopify url.

Is there a specific URL I should list in unwanted referrals and cross domain tracking for Shopify’s checkout? Chat GPT is telling me checkout.shopify.com

Thanks!

Hello @Jim_Borchardt,

this happens because Shopify uses a separate domain for checkout, causing GA4 to treat it as a new session.

Fix:

1. In GA4 go to Admin → Data Streams → Web → Configure tag settings → Configure your domains and add:

your main domain

your myshopify.com domain

checkout.shopify.com

2. Then, under List unwanted referrals, add:

checkout.shopify.com

myshopify.com

This keeps attribution with the original landing page.
