Custom product engraving checkbox works properly but causing cart issue when you deselect

Hi all, looking for some help here. On our site we have dog collars that offer a custom engraving option which is setup as a standalone product but can be added via a checkbox on these specific product pages along with text box inputs for name/phone #. If you choose to check the box to add this on and fill out the info, it will adjust the price +$12 and show up in the cart as the additional product. All works great. BUT, as you’ll see in the cart on the actual dog collar product it also shows the engraving text for name / phone. The issue we have started to find is if you’re on the product page, check the box, fill out the info, see the price adjustment and maybe decide no thanks, and UNCHECK the box, it closes back up and you assume you aren’t getting the engraving… but in the cart you now see the engraving lines on the product but without being charged for the additional nameplate. How can we change this so those engraving lines only show up on the nameplate product but not the dog collar product also? Otherwise the customer is now thinking they are still getting the engraving without paying for it…
