Can someone please help us figure out how to do the following?
What we need is the ability to notify customers that a product is back orderable, in stock, or out of stock, on the product page or checkout page, depending on the inventory status of the individual variant SKU.
Some of the variant SKU’s are going to be inventory tracked, but not continue selling when out of stock because they use 3rd party components (like a certain model of a buckle that goes on a belt that we are out of stock on the buckle, however we have the belts in stock).
Some of the variant SKU’s are going to be inventory tracked and will be sold when out of stock, but we need to be able to notify the customer of the back-ordered status of these SKU’s if we don’t have them in inventory.
Potential Option we see:

A checkbox on the product page for back-ordered items (but only when the items are back-ordered) or on the checkout page would work. However we can not find a shopify app that does this or how to do it custom.

We would probably be fine with just changing the text of the ‘Add to Cart’ button for backordered items, or having a variant sku variable text on the product page that easily notified the customer whether their item is in stock or backordered.
Has anyone come across a similar situation and can offer advice? We’ve looked through google searches, the support forums and Shopify apps without luck.
