Customer Timeline - Why no year on dates

This bugs me and I’m wondering why it cannot be fixed.

The date field in customer notes only shows the month and date. A year would be helpful. I just viewed a customer and have to assume this was 2025 as its not yet 31 may. But for all I know it could have been 2023. Why no year date @shopify?

It would show a year if it’s older than 1 year:

Hello @Kerri_Bennett

It’s primarily a UI design choice in the Customer Timeline to keep the activity feed readable, and so Shopify often uses a truncated date (month and day only) rather than displaying a full timestamp. Often the full date/the year is still there if you hover on the entry, open the order or look at the event.

If your requirements include very precise historical tracking, the best bet for a workaround is to use the Orders timeline, export customer data, or get activity through reports or API - full timestamps are always included there.

Ah of course. Thanks.

It’s so frustrating because it forces you to play a guessing game every time you open a customer profile. Just the other day I was looking at a timeline note wondering if it happened two months ago or over a year ago, and you shouldn’t have to hover or export a CSV just to figure out a basic date. It’s a tiny UI detail that introduces constant doubt into daily admin work, especially when you’re trying to piece together a customer’s history quickly.

Common, when you speak to somebody do you always say “it happened 10-sharp on 17th of May 2026” instead of “Last Sunday …”?

Does “Last Sunday” force some guessing game?
“Last March”?
