Hi, my shopify store keeps booking orders for out of stock products despite the inventory being in the negative. It’s not just for one product, it has happened for several out of stock products despite the backorders disabled. Although the add to cart button is disabled, yet an order or two slips through and i am unable to figure out why.
Topic summary
A Shopify store is experiencing a critical inventory management issue where customers can successfully complete purchases for out-of-stock products, even when inventory shows negative quantities.
Key Details:
- The problem affects multiple products, not just isolated cases
- The “Add to Cart” button appears disabled as expected, yet 1-2 orders still slip through
- Backorders are disabled in the store settings
- Screenshots were provided showing the issue
Suggested Troubleshooting:
Check the Conversion data in the order details (located near the Fraud analysis section) to trace:
- How customers reached the product page or checkout
- The session path that led to the purchase
A third-party app (STOQ - Back in Stock Restock Alerts) was mentioned as potentially relevant for handling similar pre-order cases. The issue remains unresolved and requires further investigation into the checkout flow.
@mypahadidukan Have you checked the Conversion data for the orders that came through? You can see it on the right-hand side for an order’s details close to the Fraud analysis section. It will show you how they reached the product page or checkout and the sessions that led to a purchase; that’s a starting point to figure out why this is happening.
For what it’s worth, we’ve dealt with similar cases like these - related to preorders using our app STOQ - and Conversion data is the best place to start. Let me know if you need any help or have questions.
