Customers using different email addresses to use discount code multiple times

This has been an increasingly common issue for us. Customers get 10% off for their first order and they use a different email address (sometimes 3-4 different ones) to get 10% off their subsequent order/s. This is now costing us thousands of dollars in lost revenue. I can see we’re not the only one having this issue, can Shopify please look in to this as it’s costing your merchants lost revenue. We’d like to be able to have the option to use shipping address as the identifying factor for each customer, not their email address. I can’t find an app that prevents this either - I don’t want one that tells me after the fact - I want to prevent these orders (not block them either as I don’t want to lose customers as I believe if the discount code was invalid they’d probably still do their order.

Can someone from Shopify please help?

Thanks

I don’t think what you’re asking is possible, so I’ll offer another perspective: would you rather have no sale or a sale with 10% off?

You’re actually gaining revenue, rather than losing it.

With stores I manage and advise on, I’ll give 10% away all day to make more sales. I’ve tested this and found that the 10% off “first order” greatly increases conversion rate.

Your assumption that they’ll still do the order if they get blocked by the discount may or may not be true, but consider the potential difference: If the customer likes using discounts and they get blocked on yours, that’s a bad experience for them, they may search elsewhere and become a competitor’s lifetime customer.

Discounts are awesome, everyone knows that, so consider that you’re likely making additional sales that you might not have otherwise.

You could experiment with raising your prices if you’re concerned about the margin but I wouldn’t worry about this, I would actually double down and identify the people that are using that repeat discount and reward them for being a loyal customer. They will appreciate that.

Thanks for your reply. I can see where you’re coming from but what we sell is very unique and our customers in Australia can’t get it elsewhere so we’re not worried about them going to a competitor. Hopefully someone comes up with an app for it one day. Thanks!

Hi Am also facing exactly the same situation, @sarahc2020 Did you really find solution for this? Please update here it will be useful for me.
