Dawn Theme - Collection Filtering

I have a Shopify development store with latest version of Dawn theme installed

The filters are not showing on the collection pages even though I have set them to show in Theme customizer and also have them added in Collection and search filters in the Navigation settings page

Any ideas?

Did you add them to the tags on the products? sounds like you are missing that one step

We’re using metafields - not tags and yes I have added some to the products and/or variants

Were you able to solve this? I have added ‘age’ as a metafield, added the relevant data to products, and trying to enable the filter in the Search & Discovery section.. but the new filter I created doesn’t show up as an option to enable. I am going in circles and the Shopify documentation is not at all helpful. Using the Dawn theme. Can anyone help?
