Dawn Theme - default blog / default collection

Topic summary

Seeking different templates per product page and two separate blogs in the Dawn theme, but new templates can’t be selected on product pages and banner changes affect multiple pages. The theme is currently unpublished while being set up.

Update: Templates must be applied to individual products via Shopify admin, which requires the edited theme to be published. To keep the store private during setup, enable password protection (limits public access with a password).

Action steps:

  • Publish the edited theme.
  • In Shopify admin > Products, open a product and in the Online store section select the desired template from the dropdown, then save.
  • Enable password protection during development.

Notes:

  • “Template” refers to the page layout assigned per product.
  • Guidance links were provided for applying templates and password protection.

Status: No confirmation from the original poster; the request for managing two blogs wasn’t directly addressed. Discussion appears open.

Hi there

Please assist, i would like a different template per item/product (category) page - however it is not allowing me to add a new template - i am able to create the new template but not select the new template on the product page which means everytime i change the banner on for example gifts page, it changes it on the slime page as well - i am also seeing the same issue with the blog as i am trying to create two blogs (1 for my Youtube video Posts and 1 for my blog) - my dawn theme is not published yet as i am working on it in the backround and only want to publish it once it is 100% set up - is there a solution to this?

Hi @theresedeklerk ,

You have to apply the template to the products. Unfortunately, you have to publish your edited theme to do so. You can set your website to password protect if you are still on development.

Apply a new template to a product. See more information here

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Products.

  2. Use the search filter to locate the product that you want to change, or click on the product from 3. the list of existing products.

  3. In the Online store section, use the dropdown menu to select a new theme template to apply to the selected product.

  4. Click Save.

To password protect your store, follow the instructions here
