Dawn Theme - Homepage Banner Question to Show images seperate

I have the latest version of the Dawn theme and am trying to include 2 banner images on homepage, and have them either fade between one another or transition.

I would like only ONE of the banners to be shown at a time vs current where it shows BOTH at the same time. Here is short screencast video to show issue:

Is there a way to do this with css, etc?
