Dawn Theme: How can I have autoplay slideshow without pause/play button?

Topic summary

A user wants to remove the play/pause button from the Dawn theme’s autoplay slideshow while keeping the navigation dots. They successfully hid the button but encountered a layout issue: the dots remain off-center (slightly left) instead of centering automatically.

Support Response:

  • The Dawn theme doesn’t offer a built-in option to remove the play button via the Theme Editor
  • Shopify offers free design time for Dawn theme modifications, which their internal team can implement
  • User must contact Shopify Support through their Contact Us page for verification

Current Status:
The original poster is attempting to solve this independently to preserve their free design time allocation for more complex issues. Another user has inquired whether a solution was found, but no resolution has been posted yet.

I want to keep the dots that control and show which slide is on, but I want the play and pause button to go away.

I was able to hide the play and pause button but I also want the dots to become centred. When I took away the pause button the dots stayed in the same place slightly to the left from centre.

Please help me with this!

Hey @SebastianL .

Thanks for reaching out.

I appreciate that you have let us know which theme you are using as that is very helpful! Looking into the Dawn theme, I noticed that we cannot remove the play button from the slideshow section using the Theme Editor. In this case, you can change the coding of the theme to have the play button hidden. Since the Dawn theme is designed and supported by Shopify, we can use free design time for Shopify themes to have our internal team make the changes on your behalf.

If you are interested in using the design time, you will need to login to your store using our Contact Us page. This will allow us to securely verify you as the store owner before speaking directly with a Support Advisor about the changes you would like to see.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks Ollie! I am currently trying to sort out as much as possible myself and save the design time for the problems I am unable to solve.

Hey, did you solve the problem?
