Dawn Theme: limit checkout/add to cart for select items only

Hi, I have 3 categories of items: journals, front charms, and side charms. Is it possible to limit the checkout of any charms on their own? Customers should have journals in their cart to enable purchasing charms.

I don’t want to allow customers to buy charms as is.

As far as I know Shopify cannot handle such a limit on it’s own but apps and bundles can make this possible. Please let me know if you’d like to see an example or know more about it. Hope my answer helps!
