We are still building the site and we published the site to test an order (and paid for a plan). We want to deactivate the site immediately so that no one can purchase anything, however, we changed the plan to pause and build and it’s saying that the store is active for 6 more days. We need to deactivate it NOW. We don’t want orders. How do we do that?
Topic summary
A store owner needed to immediately prevent purchases on their Shopify site while still building it, despite having 6 days remaining on their active plan after switching to “pause and build.”
Solution provided:
- Enable password protection: Navigate to Online Store > Preferences and activate “Restrict access to visitors with the password”
- This blocks public access immediately
Additional security measure suggested:
- Disable checkout by going to Settings > Payments and deactivating payment providers
Resolution: The password protection method successfully solved the issue. The store owner confirmed they didn’t have access to “Plan and permissions” or “Store Status” options, but the password restriction worked as needed.
Online Store > Preferences and click Restrict access to visitors with the password
If you need to prevent any purchases immediately, the quickest way is to turn on password protection for your store. Go to Online Store > Preferences, scroll to Password protection, enable it, and set a password—this will block public access
For extra security, you can also disable checkout by going to Settings > Payments and deactivating your payment providers
Thank you! This was the solution.
Thanks for your reply. The account doesn’t have “Plan and permissions”. Only “plan” and ‘Store Status’ isn’t an option. But the below suggestions to restrict access to visitors with a password worked.
