I was hoping to add the option to load new items before the update so customers can preview them.
Anyone know if this is possible/ how to do this? I would love to have the items with just “Coming Soon” across the photo which would change once the update goes live officially.

Hi, @Inglenook1975 . I’m happy to help you out with this! Can you tell me more about how you want these previews to look and how you’d like customers to navigate to them on your online store?
The easiest way to do this would be to use an Online Store 2.0 theme. With an Online Store 2.0 theme you would be able to easily create a new product template within your theme editor for your products that are not yet available. This would allow you to remove the “Add to cart” buttons and design the page in a way that shows customers the product is “Coming soon”, without changing how your available products are displayed. With an Online Store 2.0 theme this can all be done within your theme editor and Shopify admin. When your “Coming soon” products become available, all you’d need to do is change the product template the product is using. This guide has more information on creating and managing theme templates to help you do this. You can also find a list of Online Store 2.0 themes in the Shopify theme store here.
With Debut (a vintage theme) you would still be able to do this, but it would involve editing your theme code. We have a guide on how to edit your theme code here. This guide can help as well. It has more information on replacing the “Add to cart” buttons and creating new product templates with vintage themes. If you’re not comfortable coding on your own, a Shopify expert can help you. Thanks Erin! I was wondering if my theme ( my original one when we opened the shop) would support this. I guess I am not against changing the theme, but how can I tell which ones would offer this ( or would it still need to be customized) I have done a few tweaks to my shop but am not a coder by any means. It’s helpful to know my options even if I hire someone. thanks!
this is an example from another shop of what I was hoping to get to happen.. if possible , once the scheduled update time comes , if they could be available for purchase… that would be perfect!

You can try to follow these steps:
Go to Online Store → Themes → Actions → Edit code
Go to Sections → product-template.liquid file
Modify the code inside the loop to conditionally display the “Coming Soon” label or the actual product information like this example

Go to Assets folder → base.css file → add this following code at the bottom of page

Thanks very much for your help! This is great! However, we switched over to the Dawn theme, because of Debut being a vintage theme. So I was able to find the base.css file in the Assets folder, but I can’t find anything labeled product.template.liquid in Sections. Maybe it’s different in Dawn?
Also, is there the capability to have it transition into live at a scheduled time? Or do we need an app for that? Doing it manually for 100 items is not really feasible..

The Debut theme can support what you described, but it would likely require custom coding or a third party app. Depending on how you want this to appear you may also be able to accomplish something similar to what you described using Pages.
If you’re using an Online Store 2.0 theme, it would be easier to do this just using your Shopify admin, without having to edit your theme code. For example, if you’re trying to create additional product templates, you can do this right within your theme editor by following the steps in this guide. Any of the themes listed here in the theme store are Online Store 2.0 themes. You can also tell if a theme is an Online Store 2.0 theme by looking at the features offered in your theme editor. This guide has more information on the features available with each theme achitecture version.
I wasn’t able to see your example, but it is possible to schedule when products are published to your online store. This is explained further here. That being said, if a product is not published to your online store until it’s scheduled date, you would need to display the “coming soon” products in a different way than I described in my earlier response. If you have more context on how you want this to appear I’d be happy to suggest some other options.
