On Debut I would like for the featured Collection to be categories as opposed to individual products such as “electronics” “mens clothes” etc. and when you click it takes you to the corresponding category.

You can switch to using Collection list, because Featured Collection only helps to display products of Collection you choose.
If you want to make changes, you need to have experience with Liquid coding and CSS, or hire a professional to do this.

Actually @LitExtension that is super unhelpful.
This is a basic functionality. Seems your purpose is to get customers. If I wanted to hire professionals I would not be using a do it yourself platform. If Debut will be super unflexible like this I will choose to pay for a better theme well before I would hire somebody to fix a broken one.
I don’t understand, Debut is Shopify’s theme, I’m just helping you answer the question and encourage you to change the section because Featured Collection only shows products, it doesn’t support what you want.
It’s ridiculous when you understand it’s my theme and I want you to hire me. It’s disappointing to give someone advice and get this.
I think after reading your second response this may be a miscommunication.
Some of your info is coming across a bit different in reading it than what you are probably saying.
I apologize if I hurt your feelings.
I simply assume that one can copy and paste some code. I have done this sort of thing in the past when I needed a feature.
If Debut is not a good theme I am not married to it.
