Deleting product WITHOUT deleting from historical sales reports

Topic summary

A store owner using a multi-vendor app faces issues when vendors delete products, which affects historical sales data and reports. The concern centers on Shopify allowing product deletions to impact past reporting.

Proposed Solutions:

  • Check Shopify’s activity logs to track deleted products
  • Restrict vendor permissions to prevent deletions
  • Use third-party apps that monitor or block product deletion changes

Key Point:
While products may be deleted from the storefront, historical sales data typically remains accessible through Shopify’s API. Apps like Report Pundit can retrieve and display sales history for both current and deleted products.

Status: The discussion remains open with the original poster seeking ways to generate reports on deleted products and prevent future deletions by vendors.

I have the multi vendor app for my store with over 30 vendors. When they leave the store, or no longer carry a product they have been deleting the products from their shopify multi vendor app. How and why would shopify allow deleting a product to affect historical data/reports? I need assistance getting a report on all products deleted. I need assistance on blocking this horrific feature.

Thank you.

Shopify allows product deletion, which can impact historical data and reports by removing the product from the system entirely. To track deleted products, check activity logs or use an app that tracks changes. To block this feature, restrict vendor permissions or use a third-party app to prevent deletions. Shop Now
