Digital downloads with Distance Selling Regulations UK

Hi all,

I am looking to offer video tutorials via digital download in my store, however as I live in the UK I have Distance Selling Regulations. This means a customer has a right to return an item bought online within 14 days and receive a full refund.

Obviously what they are receiving off me is knowledge and that can’t be returned! - I need an app that is capable of automating an email first that tells customers they are waiving their right to returns (and other legal jargon) before offering a button they can click to download the link.

Does anybody know if any of the current apps can offer this, or has other stores in the UK found a simpler way to ensure sales and remain within the law?

If you want to include in the order confirmation email, you can edit the Notifications code by detecting that product and include the text / button.

Something like this inside the code that loops through the line items:

{% if item.sku == "this product's sku" %}

This item requires acknowledgement of....

Click here

 if you waive the right to return...

{% endif %}

Another option, if you want it to be a separate email, you can use email marketing software like Klaviyo that sends an email on an order event, if it contains a certain product. This would be a good option if you have a long message or want to include extra content in it like images.

The simplest and most impactful method would be to include it in the digital product delivery email (Not the Shopify order confirmation mail necessarily)
