Is there a way to influence Shopify on allowing to disable billing address collection at the checkout?
(Shopify payments are powered by Stripe and you have an option of not collecting this address at the checkout). So argument that Shopify has to collect this address is false.
We were able to hide it using Checkout liquid, but now Shopify is forcing us to go to the new checkout and we can’t use it any more. This implies that we are going to get lower conversion (and Shopify will make less fees), because Shopify can’t be asked to allow this option.

Hi @Dmitry85 since your team was able to modify checkout.liquid in the past, I assume your store is on the Shopify Plus plan.
If this Shopify store is subscribed to a Plus plan, then you should also be entitled to a Shopify Account Manager. I would reach out to them and see if they can find a way to disable this for you, if it’s not possible externally through the platform.
There may be some levers an internal Shopify employee may be able to pull.
Just a thought, hope this helps.
Thank you for your comment. You are right. We did speak to Shopify Account Manager and Shopify is extremely stubborn on this particular case.
So, I am trying to see if there are other ways to reach out to Shopify and see if they can change this.
I am sure you know that it takes ages for Shopify to make any changes whatsoever (I meant it took them 3 years to update digital downloads app to start working in Safari browser)
+1 on this.
I sell stock footage through Shopify and we’re give away a free video each month. Forcing customers to have to fill in billing fields, when the product is free, is both confusing and irritating for customers…leading to abandoned carts.
Please make this necessary fix!
