Sounds like whoever you hired may have hijacked the theme. Hopefully they can provide you some sort of licensing information. Hopefully your website doesn’t get blacklisted by search engines. That would be a very time consuming problem to try and recover from.

I have had the same issue. Fiverr guy changed my theme to cornerstone and I asked him if it was free he said yes. A few months later I get an email from legal@shopify.com with a DMCA take down notice . How did you resolve this?
