Do I need to delete my nameserver if my domain is hosted by a third party

Do I need to delete my nameserver if my domain is hosted by a third party?

I have a domain from Name.com and I have updated the A and CNAME records as directed. I used www.riaucanada.com rather than riaucanada.com for the CNAME host while I was updating the DNS records.

Currently, the site has been down for days. Please help me check. What is wrong? Did I get something wrong?

Because of the persisting errors, I had to remove the default nameserver details on the domain host. Does this mean anything? Will it help to add to the problem?

Hi @Kay36

I can see you are having some trouble getting your third party domain working with your Shopify store. I’d be happy to help you troubleshoot this!

Just to let you know, I navigated to www.riaucanada.com and it appears to be connecting to a store, have you already managed to get this working?

Can you confirm if the domain is added in the Settings > Domains section of your admin? If you click into the domain there, you should see an option to verify connection - I would be interested to see what errors it mentions there if any.

Also, if you are comfortable doing so, sharing a screenshot of the DNS settings of the domain on your third party host site would be beneficial to see exactly how it is set up.

Connecting a third party domain usually only requires changing the A record and the CNAME record on the DNS settings. You would point the A record to the Shopify IP address of 23.227.38.65, and then point the CNAME record with the name www to shops.myshopify.com. All other A records besides the Shopify one should be deleted, as multiple A records can compete with each other and cause issues. Have you made both of those changes to your domain DNS?

We have an in-depth guide here which explains this process in more detail.
