Do you create 2 google merchant accounts or 1 for 2 shopify sites

Hello we are finishing up another Shopify store and went to connect it to a google merchant account from a previous Shopify store, and we got an error, saying there is already a site associated with that account. I was under the impression the google doesn’t want you to have multiple accounts. How does one setup 2 shopify stores ? do we create 2 google merchant accounts and connect them both to google ads? or is there a preferred method of doing this so google doest ban you for 2 accounts ?

Here you have mentioned that you have two separate stores. If you have set up two different stores on Shopify with different domains, you must create two different merchant accounts. Then you need to claim those domains in their separate merchant IDs. Indeed, Google does not appreciate having multiple merchant accounts, but that is the case with one store.

And you also need to connect those stores to 2 separate ads accounts.

Thanks for the reply, we have been banned before for having 2 different advertising accounts so i know that’s an issue with them for sure. I am thinking you can connect 2 google merchant accounts to one advertisement account??? or do you sign up to 2 merchant accounts then put them all under one ?

You can sign up on two separate merchant accounts and connect them to an Ads manager account. In that case, you will need only 1 Ads account. Provided you are not advertising for the same set of products from both merchants.

So what is the right move with google ? 2 merchant accounts or apply for advanced account? such as this:

“You can only have one website per Merchant Center account. Have more than one website? Set up an advanced account.”

Only have two websites if you have one of the following reasons:

  • You are targeting multiple countries (1 website per country)
  • You are a manufacturer with multiple brands
  • You are a marketplace

If you are not any of the 3 above, then the likelihood of getting suspended is high.

Consider in this case merging all products into 1 website.

We are none of the above you mention, we are a dropshipper with multiple sites each of those sites are a brand. There is no way to combine all products into one site,

Consider consulting a specialist to assist you in the technical difficulties.

If however, you are talking from a design or niche perspective, then you may want to find inspirations from websites such as walmart, which have many different niches in 1 website.
