I’m building a Shopify app called Smart Notify that helps merchants stay on top of important store events — like low stock, abandoned carts, and risky customer behavior — with real-time alerts and scheduled insights.
I’d love to hear how you currently keep track of key store events, such as:
Low or out-of-stock items
Abandoned carts that pile up silently
Customers who stop buying unexpectedly
High-risk or high-value orders
Spikes or drops in sales or traffic
A few questions I’d love your input on:
What types of alerts or notifications do you rely on the most?
Do you use Shopify’s default notifications, third-party apps, or manual checks?
Have you ever missed an alert that led to lost sales or customer complaints?
What’s the biggest gap in how you’re currently notified about important store activity?
Your feedback would be incredibly helpful — and could help shape Smart Notify into something truly useful for merchants like you.
Great initiative — this is a real pain point, especially for solo merchants or small teams.
Here’s how I (or my clients) currently handle store alerts:
Low stock: We rely on Shopify’s default inventory threshold alerts, but they only notify for variants one at a time. It’s easy to miss unless you check daily.
Abandoned carts: We use Shopify’s automated emails and sometimes Klaviyo. But there’s no real-time alert system to tell you when there’s a spike or a big-ticket item left behind.
Risky behavior / High-value orders: Shopify flags risky orders but doesn’t always notify you in time. We had one instance where a high-risk order wasn’t seen until the next morning — cost us in chargebacks.
Sales/traffic spikes or dips: Google Analytics and Shopify reports are helpful but not alert-driven. We usually check dashboards manually — definitely not ideal.
Biggest gaps:
No central place to view all critical events at a glance.
Lack of real-time, actionable alerts (especially via mobile or SMS).
Can’t customize thresholds (e.g., “notify me if sales drop 40% week-over-week”).
If Smart Notify can cover these with customizable alerts and a daily/weekly summary view, that would be gold. Bonus if it integrates with Slack or mobile push notifications.
Happy to test it out or give more feedback if you’re in beta.
Totally agree — the low stock part is where most small teams feel the pain first.
Shopify’s built-in threshold alert is variant-based and manual, so unless you’re checking every product daily, it’s easy to miss items that quietly drop to zero.
That’s actually what inspired me to build Elevix: Low Stock Alert — it checks your whole catalog once a day and emails a summary of all products below your chosen threshold (e.g. “<10 units”). You can set global or per-product limits, so you don’t get spammed with single-variant pings.
I’d be happy to share how I structured it if you’re testing alert systems — this problem hit home for me too.
Amazing concept — it addresses a real hole that a lot of merchants have. They mostly use Shopify’s native email notifications or analytics dashboards, but those don’t provide real-time insight. The most valuable notifications are known to be stock threshold, sudden traffic drop and high risk orders. Multi-channel noise (email, Slack, SMS) and more customizable triggers would bring Smart Notify above the pack.
