Do you need Shopify Plus to use Google Automated Discounts checkout extension?

Hey guys,

So I’ve been trying to get the Google Automated Discounts working on my store through the Google & YouTube app and it just keeps saying “checking checking checking” and never actually activates. Super frustrating.

I’ve edited the extensions, reinstalled, contacted Google and nothing works. Then I realized the issue might be that this feature needs a checkout extension to be enabled, but when I go to my checkout settings I literally don’t see any customization options at all. I’m not on Shopify Plus.

So my question is, do you actually need Shopify Plus just to use this Google feature? Because if so that’s kind of insane. $2,500 a month just to sync discounts with Google? That can’t be right.

Has anyone else dealt with this? Is there a workaround for us non-Plus merchants? Any help appreciated!

Also – it make sense to do these tests in incognito mode /another browser/device.

I doubt you’d need Plus for this, discount should work on any plan.

on product pages, the extension is already added, however i cant add checkout extensions.

Are you sure?

Are you using the “Google & YouTube app. “ for the Google Automated Discounts features?

It’s not showing with my merchant client. But we can manage with Google Merchant Center. Google suggests the Simprosys app for “ Google Automated Discounts. “

its not in the native navigation of the app. you can only reach here from your merchant centre account. In Automated discount page of your merchant account, there will be “Go to Shopify” button which directs you here.

I think this is a new feature in the google and youtube app, and as always, the app has many bugs, so I recommend you wait a week for Google to fix the issues.

I have contacted the Google app support. Their support is only responding via AI i think, their replies are literally useless.

I have sent couple of screenrecordings as well. They initially told me to check if the cogs and min price data in shopify match with my merchant centre supplementary feed. They do match at the moment, but still cannot move forward to activate.

I have been trying to set this up since end of January and no fix yet :frowning:
