I prefer to use templates, as it will be more organized and better for me to check all details.
Hi @Jacqui,
We’ve worked with many different templates in the past to support dynamic content across product pages, but nowadays we’ve been relying more heavily on Shopify metafields to drive custom layouts and content logic.
Using metafields gives us more flexibility to build custom PDPs (Product Detail Pages) while keeping everything maintainable and scalable at the same template especially for merchants with large catalogs. It also allows us to personalize key areas like uvps sections, size charts, ingredients, tabs, and even media blocks, all while using a single template structure under the hood.

I hardly imagine individual optimization nowadays. Automation with the help of LLMs must do the job.
A hybrid approach usually works best. Start with a strong base template so every product page meets key SEO and UX standards. Then, use metafields or conditional sections to highlight high-priority or unique products with custom content. This keeps things efficient while still giving standout SKUs the attention they deserve.
