Hi,
I have installed Klaviyo and have so far made the abandoned cart email in Klaviyo active. Will this automatically replace the abandoned cart email from Shopify please or do I need to change something within Shopify?
As abandoned cart email is the only one I’ve activated so far, will Shopify still automatically send all other order related emails?
Thanks
Steve
Hi, @SteveM64 !
Thank you for connecting with our network.
That is an excellent question, and I’d be glad to guide you in the right direction with this. Shopify will send all any relevant email notifications unless otherwise disabled. The Klaviyo app, being a third-party, will also send notifications if they are enabled, which means that the customer can potentially receive duplicates if you’re not careful with set-up.
The important thing to note here is that you can only disable the following notifications in Shopify settings:
- Abandoned checkout notification
- Shipping confirmation
- Delivery updates, including local delivery
Since you are only using Klaviyo for the abandoned cart recovery email, you will simply need to head to Settings > Checkout > Abandoned checkouts to disable the automatic notification in Shopify.
To clarify your second concern, disabling this automatic email will not affect any other order related emails being sent by Shopify that are crucial to your business.
I trust that helps, but I am curious to learn what other business operations you are planning to use Klaviyo for. In that case, I’d be glad to help you explore some other solutions for your business needs to work alongside Klaviyo’s great features.
I look forward to your reply,

Hi Olivia
Thank you so much for your reply, all seems to make sense.
In your opinion is there any benefit in me using Klaviyo or am I best keeping things simple by using just Shopify for all transactional emails?
Thanks
Steve

@SteveM64 ,
As per our understanding, Your requirement is. you want to synchronize Klaviyo features and shopify features with together. But Klaviyo has its own configuration & Shopify has its own configuration. You have to analyze the Klaviyo app for your requirement if you are ok with shopify email notification then you can use this instead of Klaviyo . If you keep the Klaviyo app then it may affect on speed optimization score (3rd party app issue or JS issue). So if you have limited requirement & you want just general features then you can skip the app.
Thanks for your reply, @SteveM64 !
@oscprofessional , makes some excellent points about using third-party apps and how they interact with your store.
There is also another aspect to using third-party apps which help you automate your workflows and provide further customization than available within Shopify alone. While there are pros and cons to consider to both, it really does come down to your personal business needs and preferences.
I also invite other business owners that use Klaviyo to share their feedback and experience in this thread.
Warm regards,
My issue is that my customers are getting 2 email subscription emails. One from Shopify and one from Klaviyo. But I can’t figure out how to turn either one of them off. If I understand right, I can’t actually turn that off in Shopify. If that is true, I really need help to figure out how to disable the email subscription notification emails in Klaviyo. Thanks
Thanks for reaching out, @careyrouse !
You are correct in that you cannot turn off all notifications from Shopify. In fact, the list I provided in my earlier reply thoroughly describes the limitations of using Klaviyo with Shopify and how to work around each.
If you’re concerned about some duplicates sent through Klaviyo and would like to disable those, please connect with their team directly at support@klaviyo.com. I trust they can offer further guidance and advice with how best to use their app alongside Shopify’s built in functions.
Warm regards,
Olivia,
Here is some feedback from a shop that uses Klaviyo. It’s ridiculous that shopify forces us to use emails that look like a 5th grader designed them.
You need to either allow all customer notification emails to be toggled on/off OR allow us to fully edit the emails so that they match our other branded emails that are sent from Klaviyo. It makes a shop look amateurish.
