Does anyone enter inventory via BOTH Shopify, and a 3rd party app?

I currently enter my inventory via a 3rd party app. (for consignment reasons)

However I would prefer to enter my inventory directly into shopify… and only the consignment inventory via the app.
Reasoning.. .is that sometimes there is communication issues between Shopify and the app, which throws my inventory out. (numerous reasons… shopify changes something in background, or info paths cross with the timing) Of course this results in inaccuracies causing embarrassment with online orders ordering something we don’t have.
I feel if I did it this way, it would at least reduce the errors… as my store inventory is a significant percentage of the entire inventory.

Does anyone here do both by chance??

My concern, is, that if say I were to change app providers… I would lose the info I’ve entered into inventory myself if there is some setting that I don’t know of.
I watched a tutorial that showed entering inventory… and there was a box that is not showing for me.. .that was an indicator of where inventory is loaded from.

Hi there! I use a combination of pulling products from 3rd party apps and adding products manually. This works without any problems.

When it comes to where inventory is loaded from, that is found under “shipping and delivery” under settings. There you can set up which locations your orders are fulfilled from, so your 3rd-party app may have automatically created a location for products from them, but you can add locations as needed.

To give an example: In my shop (https://avagante.no) I sell posters that are connected by a 3rd party app, and then that app has created its own location. When someone orders a poster these are printed on demand, and sent straight to the customer.

All other products are stored locally here, and we pack and ship them ourselves. For these I have created a location in Shopify, and these products are manually added inside of Shopify. When we receive a shipment of products we update the available number in stock, and there is never any problems with stock-count, accuracy and so on.

I don’t know if this helped, but if there is anything else you are wondering about this just ask and I will try to help :slightly_smiling_face:

Thank you so much for your response! You sound like a great resource.

So that gives me hope…

Under shipping & delivery, however, it doesn’t show the app I use. And
under Locations, it only has my store.
So I suppose I’ll have to investigate with my app support, to see how that
would work with their app.

So question… do you customers see anything about the 2 locations? Or it
just works in the background?
I went on your website, and translated… and it doesn’t appear that it
does show the customer anything about 2 locations.

Hi there! No the location only shows in the back-end, so if I had 3 different warehouses and the products were spread across the 3 locations, the customers would never know :slightly_smiling_face:
