Does Shopify automatically send an email to the customer when you manually mark the order fulfilled but don’t enter a tracking number?

When you mark the order as Fulfilled (even with no tracking info added), you can choose to send an email to the customer by marking the checkbox “Send a notification to the customer”.
Else, you can uncheck it and the customer will not receive any order update information.

If you want to preview the notification that will be sent to the customers, here are the steps to find it:
- Login to your Shopify Admin.
- Head to Settings > Notifications.
- Under the Shipping section, click Shipping Confirmation.
- Click Preview in the top right hand corner.

We do not see the option to UNCHECK a box to send the customer a notification when we are fulfilling an item.
We do NOT want an email sent when we fulfill an item for any order at all. We only want the notification that an order is being sent when a tracking number is added to the order. Is there a way to shut this off completely?

Thanks for joining the thread and for the screenshot as well, it’s helpful for troubleshooting. In the screenshot you shared, at the bottom, there is already an unchecked box where it says “send shipment details to your customer now”. If you leave this box unchecked, it will not send a notification to your customer. The green arrow below is where I mean:
To have a notification sent to the customer, you’d check this box when you make the changes to the order (for example, when you add the tracking number). The Shipping confirmation, and Shipping update notifications are both only sent if you select them to be. You can find these under Settings > Notifications under Shipping:
If you’re still having troubles finding where this box is, any further screenshots you can share here will be helpful for troubleshooting.

Are DEFAULT setting when going in to fulfill orders is UNCHECKED. We do not ever check this box.
We tested the system and only when the Customer had downloaded the SHOP app did they receive notifications. We can test with you if you would like.
Currently, we have turned everything off pertaining to SHOP in the Checkout settings and this has seemed to stop the issues we were having.
