Does www.storename.com replace www.storename.myshopify.com?
Hey there, @Sh0pr1z3 , Thanks for jumping into the Shopify Community to ask your question about Domains. It’s good to meet you!
So when you add a new domain to your store (www.storename.com), you’re not replacing your .myshopify.com domain. Instead, you’re adding another address, or URL, that can point to your store! When you create a Shopify Store, you’re provided a free ‘.myshopify.com’ domain. You’re able to purchase a new domain, and can instead use that as your primary domain for your shop.
I have some resources here that I recommend you read through that can explain some information around domains for you:
Let me know if you have any additional questions that aren’t covered by those resources!
Thank you for your assistance Imogen. I have a few more questions :
Do I edit my store in www.shoprizestore.com/admin or www.shoprizestore.myshopify.com/admin
I have my own domain : www.shoprizestore.com, do I still need to do any editing / setting up in the following : https://shoprizestore.myshopify.com/admin
How do I backup my entire site www.shoprizestore.com
Do I need to change the theme just to change the header image?
Do I need to source a header image externally or does Shopify have its own library to select from?
How do I use omnisend in email marketing to link to exisiting and / or new email list
Thank you
Hey there, @Sh0pr1z3 . Thanks for following up with me here. You’ve left me a couple questions, so I have some information here to help you out with those.
Editing Store - In order to access your store’s admin, you’ll want to use this link: https://admin.shopify.com/store. This will take you to the admin for your store after you’ve logged in.
Setting Up Domain - If you’ve purchased your domain through Shopify, then there is likely little that you need to do in order for it to function properly, as these domains are essentially good to go once purchased. If you have a third party domain, you’re going to want to make sure it’s connected to your Shopify Store properly.
Backing-Up Store - There is no one button that you can hit to back up your shop. But, there are measures you can take to save your resources just in case anything were to happen. You should look into extracting CSVs of your products, orders, customers, and inventory occasionally, just so you can import this data to your shop again if you ever need to. Additionally, make a back-up of the theme you’re using for your shop. This will allow you to have a back-up readily available for you in case anything happens to your current theme, such as you attempt to make coding changes and something breaks. Remember to make new theme back-ups every now and again!
Header Image - You do not need to change your theme to edit your header image. If you go to ‘Online Store > Themes > Customize’, you’ll be able to access the theme editor, where you can make customizations to your theme. If you click on the header, you will be able to edit the image that is there with something different using the tools available in the left hand menu within the editor.
Image Sources - You’ll always want to use images that represent and relate to your band. You can definitely use Shopify sourced images from Burst, but we always recommend that you look into taking your own photos to feature on your website.
Omnisend Email - Can you explain this question a bit more to me? I’m unfamiliar with ‘omnisend’, so if you can take some time to explain that a bit to me, that would be fantastic. Shopify does have a product called ‘Shopify Email’ that allows you to send email marketing to emailing lists, but we do not offer email hosting. You can look into some third party email hosts (like gmail), or look into some third party apps for your store (like Klaviyo) to boost your email marketing techniques.
