Domain name can't include special characters

I have a domain purchased through google that has an accented ‘e’. I tried connecting to shopify, but I’m met with the error “Your domain name can’t include any special characters”.

Any workarounds for this or does my domain have to follow this strict policy?

Hello @dwigz

Shopify follows a strict policy where domain names cannot include special characters. This means that if your domain contains an accented character, like an accented ‘e’, it may not be accepted by Shopify.

In this case, you have a few options:

  1. Reach out to Shopify’s customer support team and explain your situation. They may be able to provide guidance or offer a workaround specific to your case.

  2. If possible, consider using a different domain that doesn’t include special characters. You can purchase a new domain that meets Shopify’s requirements and connect it to your store.

  3. Instead of using the domain directly with your Shopify store, you can set up a redirect or forwarding from your current domain to the new domain you purchase for your Shopify store. This way, visitors who type the accented domain will be redirected to your Shopify store using the new domain.

Hello @dwigz !

For characters like the one you mentioned, it may be possible for us to connect your domain, but we would have to look into it first.

Could you please reach out to our support here so that we can investigate and see if this is possible?

I would also love to hear a bit more about how you’re getting on in Shopify so far - I see you’re a new member and I would be happy to help you out in any way that I can.

Ridiculous the type of issues this caused, went with just getting a new domain. Thanks
