Domain name not available after purchasing through shopify

I have purchased a domain name through shopify but when I go to change it in the domain settings portion it is not available. When I type in the domain to add existing domain it says that the domain is already take, even though I have paid for it. I have the receipt and everything and after searching my profile and billing information everything seems to be in order. Then when I read through other forums about this other people seem to have had trouble because their domain was owned before and shopfiy hasn’t accounted for that so if anyone has any solutions I would love to hear them.

Hi, @will471

I understand that you have purchased a domain through Shopify however when you pop into your settings you find that it is not available to change or set as primary, is that correct?

Just to confirm, you have followed the steps here:

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Settings > Domains.

  2. Check whether the domain that you want to make the primary domain is present or not.

  3. If it is, click Set as primary.

After you change your primary domain, the new primary domain is displayed to customers who visit your online store.

Once verified that the domain you have bought is not present, it might be the case that the domain may have a small technical error attached to it. Which our Support team can verify for you and solve if so, as verification of your account information is important to deduce what exactly is impacting this delay/attachment of the domain.

You can reach our support team here at our help center through email, live chat, or callback.

Hi Rein,

yes the error persists and the domain is not present as a possible setting. I have verified the domain through my email like it requested however I still cannot see the option for it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the update. From here the next investigation steps would be to check the domains availability from a Support Perspective. It might be a matter of finding in the domain is attached elsewhere.

Reaching out to our support team, if you can explain the flow of events they should then check their resources and work with our Technical teams as necessary to get this resolved as quickly as possible.
