That is a great question! The domain may still be connected to the Shopify store even without the SSL certificate applied. You can test this by navigating to the custom domain to see if it directs you to your storefront. With that being said, it may take up to 48 hours for the SSL certificate to be applied to the domain. If it has been longer than 48 hours and you are still seeing this message - I would recommend trying the following troubleshooting steps available here.
