Domains unavailable under your plan

Hello,

I got the basic plan subscription, 24 USD a month. And after doing so, and buying a domain from a 3rd party provider, I get to know that the “domains” tab is not available for this tier subscription plan??

Why is that not communicated before? and which plan allows it? All I get is “Domains are not available in your current plan. In order to use this feature you must upgrade your plan.”, OK, to WHICH plan? It doesn’t say, or will I find out that it is yet ANOTHER plan than the one I subscribe to?

In the Help Center, “Basic” is mentioned under the “Domains” tab as if this tier has Domain preferences available. No where does it say Basic doesn’t have Domains.

Having “MyShopify” in your URL these days just sounds cheap and untrustworthy, but Paying over 60 USD a month to remove it with all the other hidden costs shopify has is also ridiculous.

Thank you

Hi @NoName2 ,

Thank you for reaching out to the Community.

I definitely understand where you’re coming from and would be happy to provide some assistance to ensure this gets resolved.

To share some insight, the Shopify Basic Plan that’s available for $29 USD/monthly does include the ability to connect and use third-party domains. As you’re currently unable to do so, I recommend confirming the subscription plan the shop is under.

To do this, you can head to:

  • Settings > Plan, from the Shopify admin.
  • Under Plan Details, the current subscription plan will be indicated.

If this section of the Shopify admin confirms you are currently on the Shopify Basic Plan, but do not have access to the Domains section within admin, please Contact Support. As we are unable to access account-specific details, our advisor team will be able to investigate further and get this resolved as quickly as possible.

To contact support, you can complete the following steps:

  • Head to our Contact Page.
  • Select Log In.
  • Under the topic section, please select Starting A Store.
  • Scroll to the bottom of the page to view all available support options including chat, call back, and email.

Please let me know if you have any other concerns.

Dear Blair,
Thank you for your reply. I have contacted support who tried to help. and now the issue is fixed.
I have Shopify Basic now, while earlier when I wrote in this forum, it was Shopify Lite (While I had subscribed and paid for the Basic Plan), perhaps it took time to activate?
Apologies for the taking from your time, but thanks again for the support.

Hi @NoName2 ,

Thank you for the prompt response.

I’m glad to hear this has since been resolved! It’s hard to say exactly what happened here, but could certainly be related to a cache issue that prevented the activation from processing. If you run into any other issues, please feel free to connect with us again as we’re more than happy to assist.

Take care!

I’m actually really glad you posted this since I just had the same problem, so thank you :)! Because of your post I logged out, and when I logged back in I could add my domain. I agree that they shouldn’t tell you after subscribing that you need to upgrade to access domains. There’s probably a lot of people that upgraded to an unnecessary plan because of it. When you’re starting a business you have to watch your budget, and can upgrade when you start bringing in revenue. I feel like Shopify should know this and correct the glitch or problem with their website.

Yes, same problem here. It put me on Lite, when I subscribed to Basic. I just refreshed the page and, what do you know, it’s fixed. Kind of a hassle this happens though.
