Double shipping charges for mixed cart (one-time order and subscription)

We’re encountering a problem in which customers are being charged twice for shipping when they checkout with carts containing both subscription and one-time products. They’re being charged once for their subscription orders and a second time for their one-time products, as though they’re separate orders.

We used Recharge checkout for subscription orders and Shopify checkout for non-subscription orders until February this year, when we transitioned to Shopify checkout for all orders.

We manage subscriptions with Recharge and shipping settings with Advanced Shipping Rules, neither of whom have been able to help us solve this issue.

Any advice here?

Hi. Were you ever able to resolve this? We have the same issue.

Hi Bnutt!

Were you ever able to resolve the issue you addressed in your original message here? We’re experiencing the same issue and believe it is negatively effecting our conversions as we’re seeing a 2-3% drop-off from customers between reaching checkout and converting. I haven’t been able to find any actual resolution elsewhere for this either.

Hello @bnutt ,

When products from multiple shipping profiles are added to the cart, shipping rates will be combined.

There is no way to stop this.

A workaround solution to this is to use a single shipping profile.

It looks like this issue is addressed in some of Recharge’s documentation… Doesn’t give a lot of other options though…

By using one shipping profile, do you mean not offering items on a one-time and subscription basis? Because our shipping profile is the same for all of our products and when I reached out to ReCharge, there was nothing they could do to help. Details below:

The behavior you are referring to at checkout would be expected behavior at this time. Shopify views mixed cart orders (one-time and subscription) and individual orders and therefore applies rates to both portions of the order. It’s important to note that Shopify is aware of this behavior, however, they have not shared any ETAs with regard to addressing this.

Feel free to partner with your Shopify Plus account manager for any potential Shopify workarounds revolving around Shopify scripts as that is seemingly the only means of altering checkout behavior on Shopify.

Hi - has anyone found a workaround for this issue?
It seems crazy to me that Shopify and Recharge have not realised how detrimental this customer experience is to businesses. There must be a way for the cart to recognise the two shipping profiles and apply a Shopping Discount?
