Easy way to upload content (bulk) via Excel

Topic summary

A user seeks alternatives to Shopify’s basic bulk editor for updating product titles, descriptions, and metafields via spreadsheet without overwriting supplier data imported through an API/app.

Recommended Solutions:

  • Shopify CSV Import: Can update existing products by including only the columns you want to change (Handle + Title + desired fields for product-level edits; Handle + Title + Option Values for variant-level edits)
  • Ablestar Bulk Product Editor App: Allows spreadsheet uploads without strict formatting requirements, offers undo functionality, and can bulk edit products with live preview

Key Issues Resolved:

  • Initial upload error related to primary market (NL Market) price list configuration - now fixed
  • Price updates require selecting “Price” under Variant Fields (default price) rather than “Netherlands - Price” (market-specific price), even when Netherlands is the primary market
  • Formatting Question: To preserve bold text in descriptions during upload, HTML markup is required (e.g., <strong>Brand New</strong>)

The conversation remains ongoing as the user tests formatting solutions.

Hi @TOC-MR ,

Yes, for the Shopify CSV import/update you don’t need to include all the columns. If you’re editing a product-level field (eg, title, description, vendor, product metafield etc..) you need to have the following columns:

  • Handle
  • Title
  • (the remaining columns you want to update)

If you want to edit variant attributes (price, compare-at price etc..) you’ll need the following columns:

  • Handle
  • Title
  • Option1 Value
  • Option2 Value
  • Option3 value
  • (the remaining columns you want to update)

For the test upload you did, I apologize for the problem, it seems like it was there was an issue configuring the price list for the primary market. Can you try it again now, it should be working.

Best,

Daniel
