Does anyone know how to change the DNS settings for a domain hosted on Shopify, so that it points to a specific webpage within my site, instead of going to the homepage?
Hi, @vsbuilder
I understand that you are looking to get your landing page to be redirected to another page on your Shopify store, is that correct?
I would love to learn a bit about the reason why you are wanting this?
What I would recommend though is using URL redirects. Here is a quick guide to getting them set up within your admin.
-
From your Shopify admin, click Settings > Apps and sales channels.
-
From the Apps and sales channels page, click Online store.
-
Click Open sales channel.
-
Click Navigation**.
-
Click URL Redirects.
-
Click Create URL redirect.
-
In Redirect from, enter the old URL that you want to redirect visitors from.
Only broken URLs should be redirected. Broken URLs might load a “page not found” placeholder message, or “404” might appear somewhere on the page or in the page title. If the URL still loads a valid webpage, then the URL redirect won’t work.
Note
You can’t redirect URLs that begin with the following prefixes:
/apps,/application,/cart,/carts,/orders,/shop, or/services.You also can’t redirect URLs that use fixed Shopify paths:
/products,/collections,/collections/all. -
In Redirect to, enter the new URL that you want to redirect visitors to. If you want to redirect to your store’s home page, then enter
/.Note
The new URL can be either a relative URL (for example,
/collection/shirts) or a full URL (for example,[http://www.example.com/collection/shirts](http://www.example.com/collection/shirts)). To redirect traffic within your primary domain, use a relative URL. To redirect outside your primary domain, use a full URL. -
Click Save redirect.
Otherwise, this may be something code changes within your store would be required to do. Once I learn a bit more about the why here, I can direct you as best I can if the above does not work for you.
Note: when I enter “/” i receive the message “path cannot be blank”
HI, I already found that information on my own by googling it, and it doesn’t work, because it only applies to broken links. It will not let me enter a blank path, and the homepage is a blank path, therefore I cannot redirect it using the method you have shared. I want my landing page to point to my “all products” page. the reason for this is there is no way to create an “all products” collection on my Shopify homepage that has a filter/sort feature.
Thanks for checking that out for me. It sounds like what would benefit you most here would be a bespoke solution. Since the pages within Shopify are built to work as a complete package setting your “landing page” as your “all products page” is not via as it would affect your SEO as well as the customer experience in terms of link traveling, the best solution here would be to go in and modify the code of the store itself.
You can accomplish this by working with a Shopify Expert. The Experts Marketplace lets you hire Shopify experts to help build your business. Experts are trusted, third-party agencies and freelancers who offer services for Shopify merchants, including the following:
- Marketing and sales
- Store setup
- Development and troubleshooting
- Content writing
- Visual content and branding
- Expert Guidance
These experts would then be able to pop into your store, make the modifications and set it to work for you, or indeed redesign your homepage to work for you.
Can you tell me a bit about your store and why you would want your customers to be directly sent to your all products page to start with?
I do have a very simple solution, which I have used on other stores. All I need to do is transfer my domain away from Shopify hosting to another domain hosting service, and then point the domain correctly there.
Oh and as for why I want my customers to go to the all products page is because there is a filter/sort bar at the top of the page. It is the most important part of my website, and there is no filter/sort function on a Shopify homepage (or is there?)
