- I bought a Squarespace domain and connected it to my Shopify store. But Shopify says I need to set the A record in my domain to match my Shopify IP address, which I have already done.
why is it not recognising it?
Topic summary
Shopify isn’t recognizing a Squarespace-managed domain even though the A record has been set to Shopify’s IP.
Possible cause: DNS propagation delay. Changes to DNS (like updating an A record) can take up to 48 hours to fully propagate across the internet.
Action to take: Wait up to 48 hours from when the A record was added/updated, then recheck the domain status in Shopify.
If the warning persists after 48 hours: Contact Shopify live support via the Help Center chat and type “contact support” so the team can investigate and perform initial troubleshooting.
Scope considerations: Because the domain is managed by a third party (Squarespace), Shopify support may have limited access to DNS settings. If the issue is traced to the domain configuration, you may need to contact Squarespace support to resolve it.
Key term: A record (Address record) is a DNS setting that maps a domain to a specific IP address, which Shopify uses to connect your domain to your store.
Status: Unresolved/ongoing pending propagation or support follow-up.
Hi, @Minkmoney .
Was the A record to your domain only recently added or updated?
The reason that I ask is because typically, up to 48 hours will need to be given for any changes to a domain’s DNS settings to take effect. So if you’ve recently made changes to any of your domain’s DNS settings, then you’ll need to wait for the domain to fully propagate before the system can recognize that it’s pointing to the correct records.
If you’re still seeing the warning or error message on your domain settings after the 48-hour period, you can get in touch with our live support team via the Help Center, by typing contact support in the chat box, so that we can investigate your domain in more detail from our end.
Please note however that seeing as your domain is managed by a third-party provider, Squarespace, our team’s scope of support may be slightly limited as we won’t be able to access your DNS settings from our end. In saying this, do get in touch with our live support team if you’re still seeing the warning message so that we can perform some initial troubleshooting for you. If they’ve determined that the issue lies within your domain, then they may get you to contact the Squarespace team directly for further assistance. So just a heads up on that in case it’s something that our team may do.
