Editing Site Offline - Not Ready To Launch!

Topic summary

New Shopify merchant using the Dawn theme is concerned that the site shows “Live” while still under construction and asks how to keep all pages and products invisible to the public, search engines, and the Shop app until launch.

Support clarifies that if the storefront password is enabled, only the password page is accessible. All other pages (including product pages) are blocked from public access and not searchable/indexable by search engines. To confirm, check Shopify admin: Online Store > Preferences and ensure password protection is on.

Key reassurance: With the password page active, customers cannot browse or buy, and products won’t appear in search results.

Outcome: Issue largely addressed with a clear action (verify password protection). Open point: Visibility in the Shop app wasn’t explicitly addressed; further guidance may be needed if Shop app settings require separate controls. Support offers additional help/resources if needed.

Hey all,

I am new to Shopify and using the Dawn theme. It is connected to a domain. My site status currently shows “Live.” I’m not sure how it’s live…. I have a password restriction on the landing page. This is good because I am not ready to launch my website or make any sales with the public yet. I am still building out my website. My question is how do I make sure my entire website and product pages remain invisible for the time being? I don’t want to be searchable on search engines or the Shop app, or anywhere yet. The last thing I’d want is for my product to somehow appear online and people can’t buy anything. Can someone walk me through this? Thanks!

Hey there @YSMF13 ! Great questions and I’d be happy to help you with this.

If your website is password protected still then customers will not be able to access any pages on your store other than your password page. Products and items will not be accessible or searchable by search engines either. You can confirm your store has it’s password enabled in your admin under Online Store > Preferences.

So no worries about unwanted customers while your password page is up!
