Email Forwarding - Email forwarding is not allowed for this domain

I have an update. After talking to somebody using Shopify Support, I received a reply saying that my issue was fixed, and I just added the MX record without any error.

In summary, get in contact with Shopify Support, they will try to fix it, if they can’t, they will open an internal ticket and then fix it.

Merry Christmas guys!

Thank you for the update! I will contact Shopify Support, just via the chat correct?

Merry Christmas!

I am experiencing the same problem.

I have been chatting with support for an hour and they aren’t even aware of the issue. I can add the TXT manually, but the MX is displaying the same error. Nobody in support appears to know how to add a record from their end, or they aren’t allowed to.

Same for me.

Hey guys,

They had to escalate my case to technical support. They were ultimately able to solve my issue, however the did confirm that this feature was “removed”.

sonit you’re facing the same issues contact support so they can enable it for your domain.

I quoted Rocketr in my chat to them and they confirmed. See below…

08:47 AQ: “Starting December 2024, the Email Hosting & Forwarding feature has been disabled for all new domain purchases.”

Yarii (Support Advisor): Yep, that is correct, there was a recent update on Shopify’s end. So, what will happen is that, our Technical Team will re-enable the Email Hosting & Forwarding feature for you.

08:57 Yarii (Support Advisor): this change was made as part of an update to streamline services and improve overall performance. However, I recognize that this has created challenges for many users, including yourself. Rest assured, I have noted your request for an urgent update with our Technical Team, and they are aware of the importance of resolving this matter quickly. While I can’t provide a specific timeline for when the feature will be re-enabled, I encourage you to keep an eye on your inbox for any updates from them.

Yarii (Support Advisor): As of now, there hasn’t been a definitive announcement regarding whether Shopify will re-enable the Email Hosting & Forwarding feature for all new domains in the future. The recent update appears to be part of a broader change, and while the Technical Team is working on resolving specific cases, but yep, this feature will be re-enabled back soon. Our team is just updating this for a better and efficient way.

My case was also escalated to more experienced technical support. Long-story-short they’re working on a platform level fix for this, so it’s going to require a fix, testing, and a major unscheduled deployment. So here’s what I did… Change you Shopify name servers to use CloudFlare, and then host all your DNS entries there. If you do this make sure you take a backup or some screenshots of all the entries in your Shopify DNS, and be prepared to change a few things to make it work correctly. This is super tricky if you have a site that’s already live. I’m guessing a lot of the people in this thread are building new sites - it’s less risky to do this if this is the case. If you’re not that familiar with how DNS work, find someone who can help so you don’t have downtime. Once you’re using the nameservers on CloudFlare (completely free), you’ll have access to a lot more reliable and advanced features. Hope this helps!

have they re-enable the feature for you yet ?

no more update or information about it yet on my side.

Shopify created an internal ticket for me, but no further update.

Same I’ve got the same issue they escalated my situation 2-3 days ago still nothing

don’t worry, they fixed the problem for me

Shopify fixed the issue for me!

Same issue right here with Google workspace

Hello there!

I’m not here to send a solution but to give caution.

That prompt, “Email forwarding is not allowed for this domain,” led me to buy another domain since the first one I bought was a “.store.” I thought the problem might be because it is a “.store.” domain so I could not add a forwarding Email address. Because of that, I ended up buying a “.com” domain, and turns out that the same prompt still pops out.

So, my caution for everyone is not to try to fix it yourself because it costs me some money. But then the good thing is that those domains last for a year.
Hope this message helps and hope as well that Shopify will be able to fix the problem. :folded_hands:

Any update?

Hello there!

Sorry for not updating, I got mine fixed by contacting a support admin. That means we chatted online in real time as she fixed my concern. So my call to action is to chat with an admin and everything will fall into place once you’ve handed over to them your concern.

Same problem here

Hello, They have to manually do it on their end. If you are still having issues, contact the help desk again

How did you get through to the help desk?

Absolutely the most frustrating experience…! I still can’t get the MX record to work/connect to Zoho. Way too painful.

Please I’m new to shopfiy and I had to buy form zoho to get the email and I have the same issue, I called zoho and they said its Shopfiy issue, please how you fix it?
