Email via Google Workspace isn't receiving all emails

Hi there,

I’ve recently set up my domain via Shopify and set up my domain email via Google workspaces.

I’m not receiving all emails. I’ve tested it from an outlook work email and a yahoo personal email, both are receiving and sending. However I have tried to set up an Upwork account and my email doesn’t get accepted.

Similarly, I am not able to receive emails from several suppliers.

There are a couple of reasons why you might not be receiving all emails on your Shopify domain email even though sending and receiving works with some services. Let’s troubleshoot:

1. MX Records:

  • When you transfer your domain to Shopify, it changes the MX records (server settings that tell where emails get delivered). There might be a delay in propagation, meaning it takes time for the update to reflect everywhere.
  • Check: Allow 24-48 hours after setting up your domain email for everything to settle.

2. Incomplete MX Record Setup:

  • Shopify uses Google Workspace for domain emails, but you might need to configure the MX records within your Shopify admin panel to point to Google Workspace servers.
  • Check: Look for instructions on setting up MX records for Google Workspace with Shopify in your Shopify admin panel or search Shopify Help Center for “Set up MX records for Google Workspace”.

3. Upwork and Supplier Email Filtering:

  • Upwork and some suppliers might have stricter email filtering to prevent spam.
  • Check:
    • Look for an email from Upwork in your spam folder.
    • Contact Upwork support to see if your domain email address needs to be whitelisted.
    • Check with your suppliers if they have specific email receiving requirements or whitelisting options.

Troubleshooting Steps:

  • Test again: After 24-48 hours, try sending another test email from Upwork and your suppliers.
  • Check Spam Folder: Look for emails from Upwork and suppliers in your spam folder.
  • Contact Upwork and Suppliers: Reach out to Upwork support and your suppliers to see if your email address needs to be whitelisted.
