Hey guys, recently I began doing email marketing and I verified the shopify domain DNS settings (DMARC, SPF, etc) on my omnisend app. I also verified my sender email on omnisend and shopify settings and made sure it wasn’t a gmail.
Is it normal still that my abandon checkout/welcome emails are still being sent to Promotions tab on gmail and not the primary inbox? I used to shop at a lot of small stores and would get emails sent to my primary all the time so I dont know if this is normal or not. Do people even check the promotion emails?
Well, Google is seeing that as a promotion email, you have the Promotions category enabled, so it goes there. You are free to adjust your email account settings how you see fit.
The Promotions tab is not a bad thing many people do check it especially if they are interested in the brand. The most important thing is making sure your emails are landing there instead of the spam folder. As your domain builds a good sending reputation and engagement improves deliverability can get even better.
Hello @SushiShark
Yes, that’s normal. Even with valid SPF, DKIM and DMARC records, Gmail is treating the placement as a mater of content, engagement and recipient behavior, not a matter of authentication. The Promotions tab isn’t a signal of bad deliverability, and many shoppers routinely tap into it for discounts. Concentrate on creating engagement with relevant content, avoidance of over promotion format, and prompting subscribers to reply or add your email to their address book, which should help in improving inbox placement gradually for future campaigns.
