Error Log in Shopify

Hi, I am new to Shopify and I was trying to find error log where I can see issues on the website. I was unable to find that information on the dashboard or reports or discussion forums. Can you please point me to the place where I can see any errors that occur on the website?

Hi @gagarwal

Welcome to Shopify! It’s great that you’re taking the initiative to monitor your store for any potential issues. Shopify doesn’t offer a built-in error log directly accessible through the dashboard, but there are several ways you can keep an eye on things:

One of the quickest ways to identify errors on your website is by using your browser’s developer tools. You can open these tools by pressing F12 or by right-clicking on your page and selecting “Inspect.” From there, navigate to the console tab, where any JavaScript errors on your site will be displayed. This is particularly useful if you’re troubleshooting issues related to your theme or custom code.

There are also third-party apps available in the Shopify App Store that can help you monitor and log errors on your site. Apps like BugSnag or Sentry integrate seamlessly with Shopify, providing detailed reports on any errors, including both server-side and frontend issues.

If you’ve made customizations to your theme and are noticing issues, the Theme Editor in Shopify might show warnings or errors in the code editor. Liquid syntax errors in your theme often display directly on the frontend, making them easier to spot and correct.

In cases where you suspect a more complex issue that you can’t resolve on your own, contacting Shopify Support is a good step. While you don’t have direct access to server logs, Shopify Support can investigate any server-side errors or platform-related issues for you.

If you’re comfortable with coding, another option is to implement custom error logging using JavaScript. This can be helpful for tracking specific events or errors that aren’t easily visible. You can set up your own system to send error details to an external service or your email.

These methods should help you effectively monitor and resolve any issues that arise on your site.

Hope this helps, and welcome again to the Shopify community!

Regards,

Adebayo
