Error still showing on Google sales channel in Shopify

I set up the Google sales channel in my Shopify and my products were approved but when I go into Manage Availability it shows an error of each product needing a gtin or mpn. I corrected this issue through my Google merchant center page and all the error messages have now been fixed but it is not reflecting on my google sales channel in shopify. Does this take a few days or is there something I am missing?

Hey @bryansteward ,

Welcome to the Community!

The Google channel automatically syncs your products and relevant information about your Shopify store with the Google Merchant Center. I have found that this sync can take up to 3 days so as long as the products appear fixed via the Merchant Center then you will be good to go!

If you’re looking to become more confident with investing in Google Ads to grow your business, I recommend checking out this Shopify Learn course where you’ll learn the step-by-step process to launch three different Google Ads campaigns. Shopify Compass provides you with webinars and courses on things like store design, marketing and more. It’s 100% free for everyone and new content is being added all the time. This program will help you drive more traffic into your store and also convert that traffic into sales.

Let me know if I can clarify anything further,

I experience similar issues. It does resolve itself - the main thing is that the details are there. Sometimes i’ll simply enable then disable the ‘custom product’ field within the google page and the error disappears.

Hopefully someone will respond with more details on what causes this error.

As @Moira mentioned, you can ignore Shopify internal messages, as long as Google Merchant Center has no issues.

Go to Google Merchant Center > Products > Diagnostics > here resolve all the issues if any exist.

@EmmanuelFlossie Thanks for being a loyal, tried and true resource for the many Shopify questions that come up on this site.

The gtin thing still is very confusing and frustrating. We need those products in Google so they can be advertised, otherwise, we cannot compete.

I have recently added a new product line, where all the products (they are apparel) have gone over except one. It is getting gtin errors. We scanned the gtins in from the tag on the product.

Sometimes a scan messes up, but in those cases, it is usually the variant on the product that errs out. In this case, it is the entire product. The codes match the product tags. We just can’t get it to go to Google. Seems it doesnt pass the Shopify side.

Do you have any idea what process or gtin database Shopify checks against? This is a constant issue and going into the holidays, it is going to cause us big headaches. Much time is spent on trying to resolve these errors. If we could check against the same platform Shopify does…maybe it would help us figure this issue out.

Regards,

Donna

Shopify does not check barcodes.

If you are using the free shopping app, then this app does no longer send barcodes over to Google Merchant Center, and this has been an issue for over a year with no fix.

The only other method to add the barcode is either to add it using a supplement feed.

Or to use a different data feed app, for my clients I like to use: https://apps.shopify.com/multiple-google-shopping-feeds

If however the barcodes are submitted to Google Merchant Center, and Google is complaining, you should see a request for review button on the product page.

@EmmanuelFlossie

Thanks Emmanuel. I’ll check out that other app.

We have products that I just cannot get sent over to Merchant Center. Barcodes or not.
Just too many ‘holes’ in that logic. Poorly written.

Thanks again. Donna
