Excluding a product from shipping to a zone

We have a single SKU that we’re unable to ship outside of the US. So I’ve created a shipping profile for this specific SKU which doesn’t include any international shipping rates.

But now, when an international customer checks out with this SKU and another SKU, there is no explanation to the customer why no shipping rates appear. Ideally there would be some specific message indicating which SKU is causing the issue (I expected the problem sku to be highlighted in some way like “this SKU does not ship to your location”). Is there any way to set this up?

Hey, @Jackson_Cunnin2 .

That’s a great question! Thank you for bringing it to us here. I’m happy to provide a suggestion for resolving this.

The good news is, that it’s possible to edit the wording of that error message as you wish. To confirm, is it just the one product SKU that could result in the error? If so, I recommend adding that SKU specifically to the error, as you mentioned. For example: “SKU/product XYZ can not be shipped to the address you entered.” To do so, you can change the default wording in your theme by following these steps:

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Online Store > Themes.

  2. Find the theme that you want to edit, and then click Actions > Edit languages.

  3. Click the tab (Checkout & System) that includes the text that you want to change (scroll down to checkout shipping errors shipping method not available generic).

  4. Edit the text.

  5. Click Save.

Please let me know if that solution will work for you! Otherwise, we can continue to look into this together.
