The ability to track components or raw materials is something we are investigating, but not something we currently support natively. At this time, Shopify’s inventory management within the admin is primarily for tracking finished good items that can be sold through your online store, POS, or 3rd party sales channels.
For now, I recommend checking out the Shopify app store for an app that is designed to track inventory for manufacturing. There are a number of apps for merchants of all sizes to help track and manage the manufacturing process, such as sub-component inventory. I can’t recommend a specific app, but some useful keywords include: “MRP”, “Manufacturing ERP”, “Raw materials inventory”.
