Exemptions in shopify sales tax report

Hi

I’m wondering why my exempt or non-taxable sales do not show up in my Exempt or Nontaxable columns on the new sales tax report?

I’ve read your documentation which explains that ‘Net Sales’ in this report excludes transactions that don’t collect tax, however I’d like to understand how to have my exempt or nontaxable amounts show in the columns dedicated to transactions that don’t collect tax. Have included screenshot of an exempt sale to California not showing in my report.

I’d love to provide clarification around this concern regarding the United States sales tax report. At this time, exempt orders are not included in the report. These orders are classified as the following:

  • orders for customers marked as exempt
  • draft orders where the Charge taxes box was unchecked

i agree with the original poster. But your anwser makes zero sense. you have a colomn for exempt sales… but sales to customers do not get put into that column… They get put into non-taxable item sales… so when we look at this report there is a column that is never used… its also to out understanding that not collecting sales tax on an item makes it exempt… Therefore we all would think this should go into a column some where.

As retailers we have to report the tax to the states inwhich we operate… on that report we have to mark what items are marked for resale(sales to customers who are tax exempt) and also report the total sales for items that dont get taxed… by your sytem not doing it automatically you are actually creating more work for us the user when we pay alot of money for this system that has all these features but it isnt doing something that is very basic…

Quickbooks point of sale did this and many other basic things that shopify as some how over looked.

I really miss Quickbooks. It was easy and detailed. I still cant figure my sales tax for the state correctly. I’m looking at other POS companies. But to switch again…
